Friday is a holiday

On Friday everyone slept in a bit and had a relaxing morning. Around noon we drove to the western side of Alexandria to what used to be a resort, but is now a s suburb. It is an area on the sea called Al Agami. Marwa's late father was an architect and builder, so we toured the area looking at Villa's that he has designed or restyled. When we arrived at their villa, I was amazed. There is no way to guess what lies behind the walls. Although rarely used and not ready for guests, the villa is spectacular. Her father's style was one of over-sized opulence. We relaxed and toured there for a bit before going down to the beach. The day was beautiful, but the wind felt chilly. I love the sound of the waves and the feel of the sand between my toes! Manal took my photo at the water's edge, just as a waved crashed into me - soaking me up past my knees. We returned to the villa and my pants were sent with the ironing man to be cleaned and dried. Again, we relaxed around the villa while waiting for the return of my pants. I was dazzling in my table cloth skirt and even attempted a few hula moves!

We returned to city via an interesting route - not necessarily picturesque, but I nearly hurt my neck trying to look in all directions at once to view the fish market and auction house, leather tanneries, street side markets selling EVERYTHING, and just the street life in general.

After a trip to the beach, it seemed appropriate to enjoy seafood for dinner, so we went to a popular restaurant called the Fish Market. We choose our fish from the stand, then chose how we wanted it cooked. After starting with calamari and salads, our whole fish were served. Everything was wonderful. Afterward, we toured a bit more on the way to a popular ice cream stand that has curbside service.

It was a wonderfully relaxing day with my family! (but I miss my real family)
