Alexandria is Amazing

Tuesday was a beautiful day in Alexandria. We began by driving to the National Museum of Alexandra. Manal drove and had to look for an hour to find a parking place! The museum is newly refurbished and is beautiful. Maram, a close friend to Marwa, met us there and presented me with flowers which I carried like a queen for the whole visit. The museum is in an Italian Renaissance house that was donated to the gov't. It was beautiful with marble floors, columns, and winding stairs. The displays were well lit and labeled (unlike the Egyptian Museum in Cairo).

After the museum, we drove to Montaza Gardens - former home to the last King of Egypt's father King Foaad. The gardens are beautiful and right beside the Mediterranean. We were met there by another friend Ayat. We had a great time enjoying the scenery. This was the most beautiful landscaping I have seen in Egypt so far.

While there Ayat and Maran suggested we take a boat ride - it was wonderful. The boat was smaller than we expected, but the day was gorgeous. We laughed so hard each time a wave would send the boat rolling - I was trying hard not to focus on the fact that I could not see a life jacket anywhere! The water was the color of blue you see in photos of the Mediterranean! We toured around the harbor in a wealthy resort area. What a wonderful time with good friends.

We ended the evening with dinner at a classy restaurant that served international food. I enjoyed my chicken and pasta with no garlic!
